"...and most recently the popular Icelandic children's musical "The Fruitbasket"

"Selma Björnsdóttir was born in Reykjavik on 13 June 1974 and spent a happy childhood growing up with her three singing and dancing sisters in Gardabaer, a suburb of Reykjavik. Selma was just 10 years old when she debuted in the Icelandic children's opera production of Noah's Arc, which led to a small role in "Carmen" at the Icelandic Opera and another one in a popular children's play.

After winning a song contest at the Commercial College of Iceland she received an offer to front the dance music group Fantasia, spending two years with the band.

In 1995 Selma landed the part of Rosalia in "West Side Story", staged at the National Theatre of Iceland. Ever since that moment she has been closely connected to the theatre, acting and singing in "The Rocky Horror Show", "Grease", "Little Shop of Horrors", "Singing in the Rain", "Romeo and Juliet", "Hair" and most recently the popular Icelandic children's musical "The Fruitbasket".

She has also been busy teaching and training artists for, for instance, the Icelandic version of 'Pop Idol' as well as providing choreography for music videos and the main professional theatres.

Selma represented Iceland in the Eurovision Song Contest 1999 in Jerusalem, where she finished second with the song 'All Out of Luck'. The single was featured on her bestselling solo album 'I Am' in 1999, followed up by her second album 'Life Won't Wait' a year later. In 2002 she teamed up with her friend Hansa to make an album of popular musical duets. 'If I Had Your Love' is Selmas first solo single in five years.

The Singer

Bouncy, bubbly Selma's back! Hoorah! Hoorah again! In 1999 she danced her way into 2nd place, and should have won it easily. It's always been one of my favourite Eurovision songs, and for that reason Selma is ace.

Selma is a lovely woman, with a smashing smile, and cracking legs. That's all you need to know.

She's 5 days older than me, and it's been 5 five year's since she's brought a single out. The Eurovision carrot has enticed the rabbit out of the hole and it's on the way to Kiev. Hoorah.

The Past

Always an interesting Eurovision nation in my book. In the past the Icelandics have sent ravishing beauties, moody & mysterious types, and even a bloke with a taste for public ononism.
Once a bridesmaid (indeed Selma turned up in the right dress to take on the role in 1999), but never the bride, you never know what you're going to get with Iceland. To prove my point, who else would send Beethoven to sing about Socrates? Quite.

The Song
Astonishingly, my prediction machine has foretold a horrifying result for Iceland, and it really doesn't reflect the quality of what they have. I will need to sit down and carefully look at the programming of my predications next year.
There is little doubt that the singer in this instance is better than the song, but even so "If I had your love" isn't that shabby. A fast paced pop effort, with a 20 second space in the middle for Selma exuberance, it has grown on me.

Gestures - 11 A funny one this, as Selma spends most of her time in the typically well put together Icelandic video, chasing around the roofs of Reykjavik missing with her bow and arrow, leaving little time to wave her arms about. But she does get 11 in encumbered as she is with a fetching medieval maiden's dress, and you have to expect lots more shenanigans come the performance.

Overall
As one of the three singers this year who were so cruelly robbed in years past, Selma would fully deserve any international success that came her way. It will do better than 21st and has a decent position in the semi final draw. It's also 5th favourite at the bookies. The signs are good. God bless Iceland, and their plethora of petite pop princesses.

In a Nutshell
"Not to be confused with Scooby Doo's Velma"

"The Shrink Says"

Selma has been experiencing motivated forgetting since her second place of 1999. After a year long spell of sub-transference behaviour where she transferred her feelings of a bitterness and woe to the winner, Charlotte Nillsson (thankfully cured of the nuisance calling by Mr Auguste Balls of Nice), Selma has been repressing her memories of that night in Jerusalem.
Let's us all hope that she can find release this year with "If I Had your Love", which itself is a startled cry of a fawn begging for acceptance by it's family, to wit the Eurovision family.

If I Had your Love

If I had your love
You would be
What most inspires me.
Sacred soul
Fantasy
Brightest light
Guiding me on wings.

You would be the heart inside me
What I'd wish
On a star
All to me
That is what you are.

If I had your love
I could live my dream
Flying high above
Everything.
If I had your love
You would light my world
That would be enough
I had your love.

If I held you close
Feeling your heart beat beside me
Fast asleep
Wide awake
Every step
Every move I make.

If I had your love
I could live my dream
Flying high above
Everything.
If I had your love
You would light my world
That would be enough.
I had your love.

If I had your love
I'd live out my dream
Flying high above.
Oohh yeah.

If I had your love
I could live my dream
Flying high above
Everything.

If I had your love
You would light my world
That would be enough
I had your love
