"However, in a nail-biting final and to the amazement of the nation, Javine was not selected to be in the group that was to go on to become Girls Aloud"

When it comes to performing live on stage, Javine is certainly no stranger to the pressures involved. Having spent two years in the coveted role of 'Nala' in the West End production of 'The Lion King' and playing to packed houses every night, her skills were honed to perfection.

Born on the 27 December 1981, Javine Hylton grew up with her mother and sister in West London's Ladbroke Grove. As a youngster, she loved to listen to her mother's collection of soul and reggae albums and at the tender age of 10 Javine was offered an arts scholarship. Modelling and appearances in pop videos followed before, at the age of 18, Javine won the coveted role of Nala in the West End production of Disney's 'The Lion King'.

For the next two years Javine studied during the day and spent her nights on stage and began to make her first, tentative steps in the UK's infamously tough R&B and pop scene. With this in mind, in 2002 Javine attended an audition that would change her life. On 'Popstars: The Rivals' Javine proved to be hugely popular with viewers throughout the show's run and made it to the final six girl singers. However, in a nail-biting final and to the amazement of the nation, Javine was not selected to be in the group that was to go on to become Girls Aloud.
But the story did not end there and the initial disappointment of not making the band, has been well and truly forgotten as Javine has gone on to enjoy massive success as a solo artist in her own right.

Her debut single, 'Real Things' went straight into the charts at No 4, and featured on Richard X's critically acclaimed album with a cover of the Thelma Houston classic 'You Used To'. Javine has continued to feature in the charts with her most recent hit, Don't Walk Away garnering massive radio play.

'Music can be what ever you want it to be and to see all these different countries coming together on one night and hearing all their different influences is a great experience. Ultimately one country will win which brings intensity to the whole show. For my performance I will be singing and dancing to the best of my ability, I will be taking the audience on a fantastic ride!"

The Singer

..well, she's lovely, isn't she. Wafting away the abuse of her main competitor at the national final, and holding her head high even when she thought she was going to Kiev, Estonia, Javine's a simple gem if you ask me. She's got just enough profile to be an excellent representative, and has an excellent voice to go with it. And with bling, crystal studded knickers, who needs more?

The Past

At least fan's favourite Nikki French loves Jemini. Before 2003, Ms French had the dubious pleasure of being the lowest place finisher in UK Eurosong finisher. The Scouse changed all that. But let us not dwell on those three minutes on car crash TV of the highest order, there have been other examples too. Samantha Janus, Rikki, and Co Co all spring disturbingly to mind. But for every Black Lace there's been an Imaani or a Buck's Fizz. With 5 wins, and 15 second place finishes the UK is a proud land for Eurosong fans. Brits with chips on their shoulders inevitably say that it will difficult for the UK to ever win again due to the number of countries in the contest, but they aren't fans...they're killjoy members of the UKIP party.

The Song
Well most obviously it's Turkish. Which is fine, because we Brits can't vote for our own song, so we may as well make sure to appeal to another participating nation. This is the most sultry number of the year, and runs the risk of being a bit too deep down and dirty for the more conservative of nations (but when has Monaco ever given us points anyway). It's alright really, it's repetitive, there's chance for a warble in the middle, she's slinky, it's mid table. The resurrection continues.

Gestures - 33 A good score from Javine (the name came from crossing "Janice" and "David Vine" apparently). Her arms trace patterns just in order to keep up with her constantly gyrating torso. A fine and lithe exponent of the body pop.
"Wanna" Count - 1 & 5 "gonnas". THE UK HAS A WANNA! REJOICE!!

Overall
It's getting better for the UK. Not staggeringly better, though it's leaning a bit in the right direction. Dependant on the backing artistes
metamorphosing into something resembling singers, she could score well. And there hasn't been a war we've started this year...well not so far, though those North Koreans better watch out, so that can only be in Javine's favour. On a more relevant note there is obvious interest in the song throughout the Euro/Asia nations, which can't hurt. I think a top ten place is a distinct possibility.

In a Nutshell
"Javine doesn't have a turkey on her hands"

"The Shrink Says"

Poor Javine...Shadow thoughts must be racing through her tiny mind. Shadowing thoughts are aspects of our personality both positive and negative that have been relegated to the unconscious whether negative or positive - because our conscious life will not permit expression of them .Shadow appears in dreams as a person of the same sex as the dreamer so she must be dreaming of Jordan in a pink rubber cat suit. Poor Javine...

Positives - winning
Negatives - winning & never getting another singing contract, losing, nul points, being laughed at upon my return, Jordan.
