Former Fame Academy student James Fox has been chosen to represent the UK at this year's Eurovision Song Contest. The 27-year-old from Cardiff easily beat five rivals in a live vote on BBC1 with his song Hold On To Our Love.
"I'm speechless! Bring it on," said Fox. "I have a proven track record with Fame Academy, so I'm well-equipped for the Eurovision Song Contest."
He got maximum points for all but one UK televoting region.
"It's great, I like the song, I like James - he is a great performer, which will be enough to win," said Sertab Erener, who presented him with a ugly looking trophy. His live performance saw him casually dressed and strumming a guitar.

Jamie Fox comes from Bargoed, north of Cardiff. When he was at Heolddu Comprehensive School his surname was Mullett.
James said: "I miss life in Wales" and explained: "I came to London to get a record deal."
He said: "I guess my style is classic pop."
His favourite singer is Billy Joel, and his favourite song is "She's Always a Woman" by the eponymous Mr Joel.
James has five guitars and also plays the drums. He started piano lessons when he was seven. He is also a songwriter. He performed in schools bands and pubs in the early days and in more recent years has done session work, gigging in clubs around the UK and as a support act for Liberty X.
Singer-songwriter Fox has also worked cruise ships and played to British forces stationed around the world.
James claims he's never read a book - since Mister Men. Other non-musical passions include football, snooker, Chinese food and beer.
James entertained troops from the British military in Bosnia, The Falklands, and Afghanistan.

The Singer

I can see why this fella was a BBC Fame Academy reject. He's not very good, and I can only forsee a future filled with cover version serenading of cloudheads at Plymouth Guild Hall. Denim-loving, Mister Men reading "Mullet" will not gain the record deal he wishes from this. Not by a long chalk. Still, I suppose I'll have to support him.

The Past
At least Nikki French loves Jemini. Before 2003, Ms French had the dubious pleasure of being the lowest place finisher in UK Eurosong finisher. The Scouse changed all that. But let us not dwell on those three minutes on car crash TV of the highest order, there have been other examples too. Samantha Janus, Rikki, and Co Co all spring disturbingly to mind. But for every Black Lace there's been an Imaani or a Buck's Fizz. With 5 wins, and 15 second place finishes the UK is a proud land for Eurosong fans. Brits with chips on their shoulders inevitably say that it will difficult for the UK to ever win again due to the number of countries in the contest, but they aren't fans...they're killjoy members of the UKIP party.

The Song

It's Country and Western toss that wouldn't be welcome in Nashville. It doesn't scan, doesn't enthrall, and has rubbish backing singers. Have a shave, wear something other than denim for Christ's sake, and stop loving yourself for just a little bit, and the song may just be palatable to some. It's your only chance.

Overall

I do hope our James doesn't see his points tally as a huge success when compared to last year's UK star turn. For the 20-odd points that he will get, does not a success make.
If he turns up in the gear he wore at the pre-selection, the Bosnians are going to think he's a refugee. Hits the heights if dullness that not many past UK entries have reached, my cheers of support for the UK will sadly not be strong this year.

In a Nutshell
"I much prefer his performance in Performance"

Hold On To Our Love

Maybe I've been foolish letting you down
I've been a little selfish not being around
But if I lost you I'd be helpless inside
Gotta hold on to our love tonight

[Chorus]

Cause now that I've found that someone I believe in
And I feel so complete by your side
It's the only time I've ever loved somebody baby in my life
We gotta hold on to our love tonight

I know that you've been hurting
The pain's in your eyes
I promise you I'm changing I feel it inside
I don't know what I would do if it all passes by
We gotta hold on to our love tonight

[Chorus]

Cause now that I've found that someone I believe in
And I feel so complete by your side
It's the only time I've ever loved somebody baby in my life
We gotta hold on to our love tonight

Some things in life we should treasure
When you find love never let it go
Because now I realize and I want to you know

Cause now that I've found that someone I believe in
And I feel so complete by your side
It's the only time I've ever loved somebody baby in my life
We gotta hold on to our love tonight

Cause now that I've found that someone I believe in
And I feel so complete by your side
It's the only time I've ever loved somebody baby in my life
We gotta hold on to our love tonight
We gotta hold on to our love tonight

Q & A
Ahem, the Head Of Delegation for the UK wants you to list your favourite cheeses, 3rd to 1st, please...

3. Parmesan
2. Mozzerella
1. Caerphilly cheese
You live with Alistair from Fame Academy, how is that?
He's very messy! I invited some people 'round to the flat and his door was open so I had to pretend it was the storeroom. I'm very houseproud - when I left it this morning and it was sparkling.
Don't you have a cleaner?
I'm the cleaner! We've got a dishwasher though so you don't need to worry…
What do you hate most - a dirty bath or an unemptied kitchen bin?
Hmm I guess it's the lesser of two evils. You can ignore an unemptied bin so it would be a dirty bath.
Tell us mister tidy, were you a good boy or bad boy at school?
A very good boy. I went to maths camp and I was a prefect. Up until I discovered gigs and then I was out 6 nights a week.
Which posters did you have on your wall in your teens?
Iron Maiden, Debbie Gibson, The Beatles… when I was 11 I was rebelling slightly so I had Chas and Dave!
If we allowed you only 5 songs on your i-pod what would they be?
Fragile - Sting
Themes from an Italian Restaurant - Billie Joel
She's Always a Woman - Billie Joel
Working Class Hero - John Lennon
Making your Mind Up - Bucks Fizz
What was your first car?
It was an X-reg VW Golf. It was orange.
