A Message from Deen "I appeal to all precious, fine and young people in the world to find a meaning of their lives in love, nice music and books; to leave aside drugs and everything harmful that can destroy our dreams and cause a tragedy."...Message Ends.

Deen was born in Sarajevo on the 12th of April 1982, making him a lively 22 by the time of the contest. He should have his own car by now with suitably high insurance premiums. He studied at the "Faculty of Economy" in the capital, so he's no dummy.
His real name is Fuad Backovic, and decided to change it, which is his prerogative.

"Sarajevo is the city that gave many musical talents, among them those continuing this tradition is certainly Deen. When he was 12 years old he already realized, in RTV BiH production, his first song, in period from 1997 to 2001 he was a member of SEVEN UP, probably the most successful boys-band on ex-Yugoslavia area" (also probably the best soft drink in the world)

Also well-known as the lead singer of the boyband Seven Up (3rd in the Bosnian pre-selection 1999; 7th in 2001 as a solo artist, and also 2nd last year). So really, read "lucky loser".
Distressingly, he quotes his favourite popstars as George Michael and former Eurovision Song Contest winner Céline Dion, raising her pointy head once more.
Currently his marital status is "single and happy", which is a much better state of affairs than "single and unhappy". No committment ceremony for you then, Deen.

The Singer

In a blatantly political turn of events, Deen has come out and commented that all homosexuals in Europe should vote for him. He should know that this fickle portion of the televoting demographic cannot be relied upon. The real bandwagon to jump on is the S&M-loving middle England crowd, or the Frau & Fraulines who've misplaced their porn and don't have anything else to watch, or the Catholic sisterhood of County Cork.
Deen not only looks like Sador, but also has a hint of The Shamen's Mr C.

The Past

A popular nation of the hardcore ESC fans, although I'm slightly confused as to why, since it's all well and good churning out weak ethno-fuelled pap rock every year, but just because it's not sung in English, does not mean that the songs are any good. To my mind 2003 was the best year for Bosnia, and yet my UK thought it was the worst song of the contest that year. Unfortunately at least to popular UK tastes, Balkan musical ethnicity equals excrement.

The Song

The song firmly states it's case of plagiarism upno hearing the first few notes. First up in the mix is Donna Summer's "I Feel Love", quickly followed "Hot Stuff" by Donna Summer. She's not going to be happy with this.
I can't quite make my mind up, if this is Bosnian cutting edge or if it's a purposeful paean to 70's Sarajevo culture. Whichever way up, it's a foul melange of 1970's music. And lo and behold more white suited Matt Bianco-ish backing dancers. Does the EBU rent them by the dozen?

Overall

"Turn me slow, up and down, here we go." Deen's a pancake! An irredeemably shite pancake that first stuck to the pan, and when tossed (for this is indeed toss) flew out of the pan and into the dog's basket. If you will.

In a Nutshell
"Thank Vaughan he won't live forever"
