Sakis Rouvas was born in the island of Corfu, Greece. Very soon, music and singing became a part of his life. His classmates certainly still remember an unforgettable graduation party where Sakis was the undisputed star of the show as he performed the greatest hits of Elvis and the Beatles. Gymnastics was also his other passion where he achieved distinctive national awards. He also excelled in pole vaulting and, as an exceptional talent that he was, he became a member of the Hellenic National team.

Ever since then things unfold rapidly for the young performer. His first solo album titled "Sakis Rouvas" was released and youth from all around Greece showed their love for him by making the album a massive No.1 hit. Stands and posters of Sakis Rouvas were decorating every young girl's room while media in Greece were speaking of a new star.
For four years in a row he monopolises the Hellenic Music Awards as he receives the best New Singer, the Best Song, the Best Stage Performance as well as many other awards. By now he is the top Greek stage performer, appearing together with some of the most prominent Greek singers such as Tolis Voskopoulos, Anna Vissi and Kaiti Garbie.

On May 19th 1997 Sakis makes a step towards peace and reconciliation by appearing together with the Turkish pop star Burat Kud in a bicommunal concert organised, in the controlled by the United Nations, territories of the island of Cyprus. The concert becomes a news' headline worldwide thus causing a political impact. For the said concert Sakis was awarded with the international "Ipeksi prize" for the understanding and the cooperation.

The release of "Kati apo mena" (A little something of me) on December 1998 was followed by an outstanding live performance in Virgin Megastores where thousands of his fans caused a traffic jam in one of the busiest Avenues of Athens. Sakis who always wants to make an impressive appearance on stage using all his performing, singing and dancing skills, made an unprecedented sensation in October 1998 when he appeared on stage wearing a skirt that was especially made for him by the world famous Haute Couture designer Valentino.

In the summer of 2000 Sakis, being the only true pop star in Greece, is asked by the management team of PEPSI to star in the new advertising spot for their summer campaign. Nine years after his first performance he still is one of the most, if not the only one most loved and sought after artists in Greece and we assure you…"You haven’t seen anything yet".

The Singers
Move over, Beverley Callard, this is the must-have backing dancers workout video of 2004. Sakis is extremely keen on himself and his looks. If his promo video is anything to go by, the award for the tightest apparel will most probably go to Sakis and his constricting t-shirts.

In fact a tactical error may be not only his willingness to show off his hairy armpits, but also his feeble dance routine.  His singing also stinks. I reckon Stelios Konstantas had more charm in his feta salad filled stomach contents of last year, than Sakis could ever manage.

The Past
One of the nations who need an Eurosong victory to reaffirm their commitment to the contest, Greece have had a topsy-turvy history. It took them longer than many others to stop relying on the olive oiled chanteuse each year, and have recently been diverging their approach to embrace less wholesome singers clad in rubber, leather, and tight strapping.

The Song

Even one of those Madonna head mic’s and typical Mediterranean women pawing at him cannot hide the rather amateurish nature of the whole enterprise.

"na na na" factor - Low
"shakey" factor - Huge

Overall

It's a banal, tiresome, repeating ethno pop song. So that must make it the clear favourite...and indeed it is. Sakis is a big star in his homeland and throughout all the minor places nearby to Greece, so many points should be his. It will get through the semi, but if it does get enough points to win the whole shebang, I would not be surprised to see Shakin Stevens again ride high in the Euro charts, off the sweaty back of this. "I have a terrible feeling"tm...

Shake It

Every time you wanna play
Turn me on all the way
Come to me and take the right
Skin on skin, it's pure delight

Giving me the passion, you're burning my heart
Gonna rock you till you drop
Baby, you're the reason I'm feeling so hot
Watch it now, I just can't stop

I would trade my life
For a night with you
Driven by desire
Make that move on me
It's time for you to see
That my world's on fire

Shake, shake, shake, shake, shake it, mi amor
Crazy for love, gimme some more
Shake, shake, shake, shake, shake it, mi amor
Crazy for love, gimme some more
Shake, shake, shake, shake, shake it, mi amor
Crazy for love, gimme some more
Forever, yeah...

Need the taste of your lips
Darling, it's your body
That's driving me nuts
Let me in, got to touch

I would trade my life
For a night with you
Driven by desire
Make that move on me
It's time for you to see
That my world's on fire

Shake, shake, shake, shake, shake it, mi amor
