What makes you really mad?
Ludwig: People shouting at other people's faces and offending one personally. Being quite a calm person I find it so rude and annoying to do such things.
What was the most embarrassing moment of your life?
Ludwig: Went to a lady's rest room in Hungary due the fact that there were no signs and almost got arrested by a 7 foot Hungarian soldier. What is the best feeling in the world?
Julie: As a performer the feeling of performing in front of a great and warm audience and peace among every nation, without any wars.
What is the worst feeling in the world?
Julie: People dying of hunger and incurable diseases
What do you spend your money on?
Ludwig: I love buying cloths, going out for meals and CDs. I'm a 101% music lover.
Who is the one person, dead or alive, you would most want to meet?
Julie: The Pope, I have a lot respect towards him as a man who has passed through many difficult times as well.
What are you most afraid of?
Ludwig: I'm terrified of rats. I wonder why on earth such a species was created.
If you weren't a singer what would you want to be?
Ludwig: A cook
Julie: An astronaut
Do you eat all your vegetables?
Ludwig: No, in fact I'm not a vegetable lover unfortunately. Having said that however I just go crazy for onions.

The Singer

Probably the most surprising facet of this year's contest is that Ludwig has a relatively successful career in singing. His voice really is the pits.
And by the looks of the picture, his skin peels off to when he talks to teacups.
He's also not afraid to state that he had a public toilet run-in with a 7 foot tall Hungarian soldier. Cheeky.

The Past
If Eurovision countries were toys, then Malta would be a big cuddly teddy bear (Germany would be Garbage Pail Kids, Sweden would be Barbie, Spain would be Ken).
The little jewel of Eurovision, who for over 10 years now have been sending cuddly, quasi-religious little ditties, almost universally to some success. Three times, three women have come in the top three, which for an island with no railways is pleasing for Maltesers. Thousands of people welcomed Ira back home after her second place in 2002, proof if proof were required just how powerful a inconsequential three minutes of sound can be. Nobody could begrudge Malta a win. Aah.

The Song

The song inexplicably begins with a carefree naive laugh from Julie. As usual with Malta though, the rest of the song seems so sugary and manufactured that you want the early laugh to take on a more sinister undertone. Listening to this is like munching the contents of a sugar bowl during the intermission of your local amateur dramatics society's production of Pirates of Penzance. Well, that's what I think anyway.

Overall

Ludwig "why were rats created?" may well be getting the award for cheesy performance this year, and it will be up to Julie "I want to meet the Pope in space" to rescue the situation for Malta. I feel I may well be asking too much of her.

In a Nutshell
"Doesn't get me laughing"

On Again, Off Again

Look at me, I need some attention
I’m a girl of serious intention
Just like a butterfly
My wings can take me high
To touch your piece of sky
Though I can fly away
Play cool, or run away
I choose to hold your love
More than one night

You’re everything and nothing in one
What do you mean?
Our love goes from the North to the South
I disagree
I just can’t understand anymore
What we have in common

On again, off again
Like the rhythm of rain
We need to decide
Find an end to this game
Such wonderful times
Many natural highs
Love is a flame that we can never tame
On again, off again

Why, oh why can’t I live without you?
How, oh how do I reach inside you?
My love is justified
I simply had enough
I want you by my side
Am I your fantasy?
Mystery? or destiny?
Do you take me for a ride?
Please, tell me now

You’re the air, you’re the love that I breathe
That sounds so good
You’re the magic that flows from within
I feel that too
We come close then we move far away
Can’t we stay together?

On again, off again
Like the rhythm of rain
We need to decide
Find an end to this game
Such wonderful times
Many natural highs
Love is a flame that we can never tame
On again, off again

There’s a river between us
And I need you to come across
Reach out for my heart
Keep this feeling so alive
Love grows, we survive

On again, off again
Like the rhythm of rain
We need to decide
Find an end to this game
Such wonderful times
Many natural highs
Love is a flame that we can never tame
On again, off again

Off again, on again
Like a flickering flame
That dies in the wind
And lights up again
Such wonderful times
Many natural highs
Love is a flame we can never tame
On again, off again

On again, off again
