"Helena has love and support coming in from all over the country; it looks like she will keep Greece very busy for months to come!"

"Yes, its true! Helena Paparizou will represent Greece on the 21st of May, which coincidently is also her name day!
By general opinion Helena is the ideal person to represent Greece for the Eurovision contest, for she possess all the essential prerequisites including the experience of the event, since not too long ago, Helena as a member of Antique, gained the third position in the 2001 Eurovision contest with "Die for you".

Helena Paparizou’s debut solo album "Priority" was released in Greece during 2004 with great success. From the album many songs became major hits. Even prior to Helena’s official acceptance to represent Greece in the famous song contest, the buzz in the media and around Greece was so massive and extremely supportive, that it would be a national disappointment if she had to not accept. One things for sure: Helena has love and support coming in from all over the country it looks like she will keep Greece very busy for months to come!"
"Helena Paparizou was born and raised in Sweden from Greek parents. Helena’s artistic talents and anxiousness to excel in them were revealed at a very early age. More specifically, Helena’s talents revolved around singing, dancing and acting. Wanting to involve herself and excel in her talents, Helena began her studies of these arts even while she was still in school.
One of Helena’s significant turning points in her life was with the creation of Antique, a group she created with her good child hood friend, Niko at the age of seventeen. Almost immediately, Antique signed their first record label contract with the then newly founded record label Bonnier in Sweden. Their debut single "Opa Opa" became a huge hit, reaching number one on the single charts and gaining a gold status. Following their success with"Opa Opa" came their debut album while later in 2001 came their first major turning point in their career with their participation in the Eurovision Song Contest. Antique’s success in the Eurovision contest led to a promising future and a successful career which included many platinum albums, a European tour, and collaborations with many highly successful and credible artists from Greece and abroad. Despite the group's major success, their journey as Antique came to an end in 2003.
Making one of the most difficult decisions Helena ever had to make, she decided to pursue her passion and her musical journey alone. This brought her to the dynamic team of Sony Music where she signed her first contract as a solo artist. In December 2003, Helena Paparizou released her first single as a solo artist, "Anapandeetes Klisis" (Missed Calls), a song that was written especially for her by famous singer and songwriter, Christos Dantis. Quite naturally, "Anapandeetes Klisis" became a major hit and remained on the top of airplay charts as well as the sales charts for a very long time, reaching a gold status. In spring 2004, Helena released her first personal album "Protereotita" (Priorities)."

The Singer

Helena seems to be a focussed individual and came across as a bit of a charmless nerk at her national pre-selection when she wore some sort of fur lined riding boots whilst miming through her song. While this may sound quite alluring, it was in reality one of the most unflattering sights that could be imagined. She smiles a lot more in her promo video though. Greece hopes that she dumps the boots and shows her teeth.

This time last year Greece was the favourite for the title up until the day before, and was only denied victory at the very last. Add the relative importance the Greeks feel for the contest having never won it, and Helena’s got a job on.

The Past

One of the nations who need an Eurosong victory to reaffirm their commitment to the contest, Greece have had a topsy-turvy history. It took them longer than many others to stop relying on the olive oiled chanteuse each year, and have recently been diverging their approach to embrace less wholesome singers clad in rubber, leather, and tight strapping. And it almost won last year.

It's also worth a mention that Helena Paparizou came third in 2001 with Antique. Back then, it was a standout track, and remains in the canon of great Eurovision songs that should have won. Now while, this won't mean a thing to most viewers, Helena is one of the competitors that Eurofans do feel deserves another run for her money, and maybe success.

The Song
An excellent place on the draw for Helena, who will be bookies favourite come the 21st of May. But why? Well, for a start it’s opened as favourite, and I can’’t see there being the same big odds as were for Ruslana last year. The song won’t be dabbled with again now, and although it’s the usual repetitive effort from the olive producers, it does come across as more professionally wirtten and produced than your average Euro effort.
It’s catchy, she’s easy enough on the eye, and expect the usual group of male dancers pawing her.

Gestures - 36 Just missing out on the podium, Helena and her pals have a dance routine already...they are organised. She throws her arms about in an attractive fashion. She even shows off a black dress, shredded all the way up to the private areas. This really is a very solid Eurosong effort.
"Wanna" Count - 0 (1 "want")

Overall
Find me a Greek woman who dresses with a suitable size of clothing for their form, and I'll reward you with a prize. Sticking closely to the usual female Greek way of revealing every curve, Helena's posing puts great strain on the huge wardrobe she employs. She's starting the hottest favourite in living memory, and although every sinew wants to dispute the odds on show, I'd be doing myself and all you a disfavour if I did. The song is the strongest, but does it have the other necessary ingredients to tip it in the Greeks favour?

In a Nutshell
"Is it your number one?"

"The Shrink Says"

My Number One expresses the overwhelming passion and fiery disposition of Helena's Mediterranean nation, as voiced so potently with the engaging lyric

"If I find out you don't want me, I'll be vicious"

The song also reflects her Swedish upbringing with simple melody and an undercurrent of melancholy with staid sexiness. For this, review;

"You're my lover, undercover
When I kiss your lips, you know, you take me higher"

All in all an intriguing mixture of psychological behaviour, whereby affective disorder and aggression is a truly volatile mixture. My advice would be to stay well away. Goodness only knows what'll happen if she doesn't win. I'm feeling faint now, I need to go and lie down…

My Number One

You're my lover, undercover
You're my secret passion and I have no other
You're delicious, so capricious
If I find out you don't want me, I'll be vicious

Say you love me and you'll have me
In your arms forever and I won't forget it
Say you miss me, come and kiss me
Take me up to heaven and you won't regret it

You are the one
You're my number one
The only treasure I'll ever have
You are the one
You're my number one
Anything for you 'cause you're the one I love

You're my lover, undercover
You're my secret passion and I have no other

You're a fire and desire
When I kiss your lips, you know, you take me higher

Say you love me and you'll have me
In your arms forever and I won't forget it
Say you miss me, come and kiss me
Take me up to heaven and you won't regret it

You are the one
You're my number one
The only treasure I'll ever have
You are the one
You're my number one
Anything for you 'cause you're the one I love

You're my lover, undercover
You're my secret passion and I have no other

You are the one
You're my number one
The only treasure I'll ever have
You are the one
You're my number one
Anything for you 'cause you're the one I love

You're my lover, undercover
You're my secret passion and I have no other
