The Spin

DragonFly is a Croatian rock 'n' roll band with a female lead singer. Besides the vocal of Iva Gluhak, the band is composed of three more members: Drago Vidakovic - guitar, Branko Kužnar Žan - guitar and Branko Badanjak - drums.

The band was initially formed in mid '90s under the title The Draggerrs and played remakes of rock 'n' roll classics. The technical and production definition of performance accomplished exceptional recognition amongst the audience. Additionally, the band released Live in Annawe album, recorded in Wartherrase (Austria).

However, the new singer and the new title encourage the band to redirect their music potential and start making and performing their own lyrics. The combination of own music and previous experience of producing perfect sound and definition enabled the band to welcome various well-established musicians. Therefore, most remembered performances were the mutual challenge for DragonFly but also music legends such as Gibonni, Vlatko Stefanovski, Dado Topic, Plava trava zaborava, E.N.I., Tony Lee King, Angels and many more. Each performance with one of the guest artists added a unique flavour to already familiar DragonFly sound.

It is important to emphasise that the band possesses high tech equipment and high quality instruments, which significantly add value to the live shows.

Dado Topic , composer, lyrics-writer, arranger, guitar and bas guitar player, and surely one of the best and most famous rock singers in Croatia and ex-Yugoslavia. Born in Dalmatia, 4th of September 1949, his career starts early in his life as a teenager, in Osijek, as a member of rock bands, "Devils Elixire" and "Dynamite".

As a singer he was called upon, by a very popular band in the early 70`s, Korni Grupa, but after playing with them for a year, Dado Topic forms his own legendary band, Time, consisting of, at the time, the best and the most recognized musicians. After a period of ten, very successful years, Dado Topic decides to go solo, and continues performing on stage, promoting his own, easily recognized songs and music, becoming a legend in his own rights.
Year 2006, Dado Topic was awarded The best rock vocal & composer, in the past 40 years.

DragonFly & Dado Topic have performed together for the last couple of years, mainly live concerts, where they enjoy playing authentic rock music. Dado`s and DragonFly`s success, as the winners of the Croatian song contest, Dora 2007, he sees as a step on their way towards the stars, but he also says "…more important than the goal itself, are the steps that you take, and the road that leads you to it…"

The Singer

An interesting Dora this year (Dora being the name of their national final...maybe the UK should change their name to Milicent), hampered as usual by the broadband connection sticking at the chandelier panning shot...chandeliers shouldn't be allowed on the web. Anyway, the old time Dado Topic surprisingly won through with a decidedly MOR rock track befitting his age. Mr Topic, an Iggy Pop type of old prune, gets aroused in his leather chaps due to the close attentions of his very much younger co-singer Iva, a tousled haired maiden dressed herself in schoolgirl leathers.

The Past

On average, Croatia are distinctly average. They've never been in the top three, and indeed never been relegated. Ivan and (Goran & Toni) are the only blokes ever to represent Croatia, and indeed red blooded heterosexual male fans of the contest (who are extremely few and far between) can normally expect a good show from Croatia. The continuous display of loverley ladiesss at the Eurovision has, I reckon, gone a long way to developing their tourist industry in recent years. Although I have no scientific proof to back that assertion up.

The Song

This is where I get all British and ignorant. Iva says in perfect English "Lend me a ball" throughout the song. Now I appreciate that she in fact saying a haunting lyric in Croatian, but nonetheless, the idea of "lending her a ball" is quite a surreal yet attractive prospect. That withstanding, "I believe in love" has all the ingredients to get the middle aged patrons marking down a 6 out of 10 then heading for the fridge, but what's new, this is Croatia. Although I don't always have my finger on the nub of youth, I get the distinct feeling "Lend me a ball" won't float the youngster's boat at all.

Overall

Dado and his leggy pal will undoubtedly receive votes from Split & Sunderland, but I'm not convinced there will be too many in between. Still this is Croatia were talking about so no doubt, they'll finish 7th in the semi final, and 12th in the final. Let's move on, shall we?

In a Nutshell
"Iva says 'Lend me a ball', but I can lend her two"

the philosopher says
analytic / synthetic Distinction between judgments or propositions. A judgment is analytic if the concept of its predicate is already contained in that of its subject; if the concepts of its subject and predicate are independent, it is synthetic. Alternatively, a proposition is analytic if it is true merely by virtue of the meaning of its terms or tautologous; otherwise, it is synthetic. For example:
"Dragonfly are a Rock'n'Roll group" is analytic.
"Rock'nRoll groups belong in the 1970's" is synthetic.
Empiricists generally suppose that this distinction coincides with the a priori/a posteriori and necessary / contingent distinctions, while Kant held that synthetic a priori judgments are possible.

Vjerujem u ljubav

Ne nije bol to sto te trebam
Zivim a znam da te nemam

You'll never know
How much I love you
You'll never know
How much I need you

Ako mi pogledas u oci
Tu vec dugo skrivam bol
I onaj stih iz moje pjesme
Ti si ko na ranu sol

Jer ja vjerujem u ljubav
To sto nisi htjela ti
A ovom' srcu tek ostaje da sanja
I ne dam da se probudi

Jer ja vjerujem u ljubav
To sto nisi htjela ti
A ovom' srcu tek ostaje da sanja
I ne dam da se probudi

You'll never know
How much I love you
You'll never know
How much I need you Ako mi pogledas u srce
Tu zauvijek zivis ti
Za mene svijet bez tebe
Kao da ne postoji

Jer ja vjerujem u ljubav
Bas ona ko kao ti
A ovom srcu tek ostaje da sanja
I ne dam da se probudi

Jer ja vjerujem u ljubav
Bas ona ko kao ti
A ovom srcu tek ostaje da sanja
I ne dam da se probudi

Ne nije bol to sto te trebam
Zivim a znam da te nemam

You'll never know
How much I love you
You'll never know
How much I need you

I believe in love

No it does not pain me that I need you
I live and still know I don't have you

You'll never know
how much I loved you
You'll never know
how much I need you

If you look into my eyes
this is where I hide my pain
And that line from my song,
you are like salt on an open wound

Because I believe in love,
something you would not
And this heart is just left to dream
and I will not let it wake up

Because I believe in love,
something you would not
And this heart is just left to dream
and I will not let it wake up

You'll never know
how much I loved you
You'll never know
how much I need you
If you look into my heart
you forever live here
The world does not exist without you

Because I believe in love,
just like you do
And this heart is just left to dream
and I will not let it wake up

Because I believe in love,
just like you do
And this heart is just left to dream
and I will not let it wake up

No it does not pain me that I need you
I live and still know I don't have you

You'll never know
how much I loved you
You'll never know
how much I need you
