What do I think of this?

It's folk, and rock. Not folk rock. No. It's a bit of folk for 30 seconds, then a bit of rock for 30 seconds, repeat three times. End. If Poland hadn't sent the smiling strangler then this would've been dead last. As it is, "Narodnozabavni Rock" will be bottom in the second semi final, and even with the most photogenic singer of the year (and I'm not talking about the one with the mullet) I cannot find owt good to say. Tragic.

Biography

Slovenia's entry combines two musical styles into one this year: the unique collaboration of Ansambel Žlindra & Kalamari will perform their Popular Folk Rock song - or in its native Slovene: Narodnozabavni Rock.
The Slovene representatives for the ESC harmoniously amalgamate two music genres, as the title of the song states: Popular Folk Rock. Rok Žlindra has performed at different events with his accordion since a young age, but his greatest wish was to have his own musical group. Rok therefore invited their singer Barbara to join him. At a party, he met Rok Modic and through him Nejc Drobnic.

The inception of the Kalamari group was in November 1993, when three of the members joined forces for a few performances in one of the Slovene coastal hotels. Due to their professional performance and harmonious trio of voices they were immediately noticed by both audience and experts. They tried their luck with original songs very soon and in 1995 released a CD entitled Dobra Vila (Good Fairy). The CD contained a few radio hits aside from the title song, but they gained wider recognition in Slovenia through the release of their second CD entitled S Tabo Držim (I'm on your side). Their most recent CD, their 7th altogether, was released in November 2009.

Narodnozabavni rock

Let there be (let there be, let there be) a change of the scene
Let everybody (let everybody, let everybody) go crazy about this sound
Let it run through the veins, let it strike right into the heart
Narodnozabavni rock

Polka is the queen in the Slovenian land
It brings out dance, shrieks and laughter
Rock is the king of partying, sharp, but sincere
Hot like summer, colourful like autumn

But just one drop of creativity
Hides polka into a wild rhythm

Let there be (let there be, let there be) a shift in the mind
Let it be (let it be, let it be) like a positive shock
The feeling is right, let everybody be overwhelmed by
Narodnozabavni rock

These country melodies bring out enthusiasm
A feeling of patriotism, love and pride
And rock spreads energy through guitar strings
Throughout the land, like a fire

But just a tiny bit of imagination
Hides rock into the polka rhythm

Let there be (let there be, let there be) a change of the scene
Let everybody (let everybody, let everybody) go crazy about this sound
Let it run through the veins, let it strike right into the heart
Narodnozabavni rock

Narodnozabavni rock

Let there be (let there be, let there be) a change of the scene,
