In an official
statement, the Turkish government have admitted that they only have two
forms of basic song in their country. One is a sultry young maiden draped
in light carpet and tassles shouting a huh huh huh type refrain. The other
is a four piece male pop outfit of local superstardom, who bang away at
rock instrumentation whilst moodily lit in crimsons.
2010 sees us at option 2. They're called MaNga, "We Could Be The
Same". Who said there is no irony in Europe.
It's got a catchy enough pop riff, will see them safely in the top ten,
but surely the nation will rise up and demand something a bit different
soon. In the meantime, MaNga are the band who put the Man in Aga, a modern
male group asking us to fall in love with strangers, sleep with them,
and then move on. I can't publicly condone that sort of behaviour, whilst
privately of course I'm thinking "good work".
Turkey always excel at the Eurosong, no matter how little difference they
are. This is one of their better turns, and I predict a podium place.
I admittedly know as little about guitar based bands as Tim Westwood knows
about Brahms, but I still consider this to have a live chance. |
