26 year old Virginie, born in the Ardeche, has already won several song
contests in France. She is part of the Montelochante association which
looks for promising young artists and gives them the chance to perform
on a regional scale.
Virginie, an amateur singer and hairdresser, was chosen on 14 March
by the viewers of France 3 and a special jury presided over by Charles
Aznavour, along with Natasha Saint-Pier (Eurovision representative for
France in 2001) and Lara Fabian (Eurovision representative for Luxembourg
in 1988). Virginie is also the winner of France 2's very popular show
'Entree des Artistes' which is hosted by Pascal Sevran. This show gained
her a place in the French selection for the Eurovision Song Contest.
She was selected when she sang Céline Dion's hit 'Pour que tu
m'aimes encore'.
In Athens, Virginie will perform a song composed by Rwandan-born Corneille.
After several hits in France for which he is highly acclaimed, Corneille
declared he was "proud" to take part in this exciting new
challenge, that "promotes artists who do not have direct access
to the media or to radio and TV shows."
France received special dispensation this year in order to choose another
song. It was felt by Ms Pouchain that the song chosen for her was not
appropriate for her vocal talents, and so a new ballad titled "Il
etait temps" was chosen after the cut-off date that the EBU should
have accepted sdongs. The extension of the deadline on previews videos
till 24th of March to France and Ukraine was granted by EBU.

Now
I know it's easy to fall into the trap of French-bashing for the sake
of a quick giggle, and believe me I've been culpable on more than one
page of this site, but this year the onion-munchers have surpassed themselves.
Even after moaning enough to get special treatment from a European organisation
(nothing new there), thye've still managed to assail our eardrums with
the type of Gaul ballard crap that galls me no end. Ms Pouchain (with
the emphasis on the "poo") qualified to sing for France with
the demon-Dion's song of '88. Yet again France have presented a chanteuse
with very little to offer, and certainly no novelty value. Virtually every
non-French speaking Eurofan knows that this approach no longer cuts the
Dijon mustard. What the odds of the Big Four propping the rest up again?
Shorter for this, that's for sure.
A French representative once called Eurosong "a monument to drivel".
It's songs like these that offer ammunition to dullards like that man.

It's Now Time
Become, as the unique reason to resist
Hold out, raise the voice to exist
You can say it, you can sing it easily
But today my chorus is this one:
Time has come for heaven to remember me at last
Time has come, a rest finally, it's my own chance
Time has come, time has come.
Run, after an ideal, it's worth it
Suffer. Oh what a treat when a dream is at the end
You can say it, you can sing it easily
But today, my chorus is this one:
Time has come for heaven to remember me at last
Time has come, a rest, finally it's my own chance
Time has come, time has come.
I didn't believe in it anymore
I didn't believe in it, and it's still hard for me believing it today
Time has come for heaven to remember me at last
Time has come, a rest finally, it's my own chance.
The time has come, let's hope it lasts,
And if not I'll be glad to tell the children
I was able to touch it, once in my lifetime.
The time has come
