With over a million European record sales under her belt, singer/songwriter Kate Ryan is a hot young singer-songwriter with a passion and ability to match her success.
Born in a small village in Belgium to a musical family, she entertained everyone with her impressions of Madonna, complete with red Spanish La Isla Bonita dress lovingly made in miniature by her grandmother. In art school, Kate impassioned her teachers with her intangible feel for drawing and painting.

As her parents owned their own café and pub concerts are quite popular in Flanders, the region around her home town Meerhout got to know Kate's talent quite well. Armed with only a guitar and a considerable load of guts, Kate hit the stage.
Her initial solo singles stormed the charts, with her cover of Mylene Farmer's Desenchantee' sitting on the top spot for five weeks and going double platinum in Belgium. Aside from its success at home 'Desenchantee was a true international success. Now Kate and her team are amongst Belgium's most respected dance singer- songwriters.
Kate is recognized all the time in Belgium but seems unfazed by the attention. "Its part of the job, of course. People like to come up and say 'Can I have an autograph?' and 'Aren't you that singer?'…the respect of the fans is so special to me".
As for the future, Kate is optimistic about her chosen path. "Id like to keep having success with my music, keep traveling, performing, composing and recording. I'd also like to stay home with my roots, playing smaller gigs in intimate venues."

Kate is a girl with her finger on the nub of youth. She knows that Belgium is famed for it's dance music, and made sure that the video for "I Love You" was shot in a desirable beachfront location. By all accounts Kate is the most internationally renowned artist the Belgians have ever sent to Eurosong, and so it is with great excitment that they send her off to Athens with her tit-tape and spray-on tan. Indeed, one of her remixes sold over a million copies, but I'm fairly sure the song never made it as far as Portsmouth.

It's a difficult one to call this. Belgium have previous with this type of song. As recent as 2004, soft-porn Xandee went to Istanbul buoyed by early plaudits and short odds, only to bomb in a very big way. This isn't much different when all said and done. There is similarly annoying male backing dancers, awful backing singers, and a youthful female lead banging out a euro-dance-lite effort with great gusto, so it really should also crash and burn. But for all that, I think "Je T'Adore" is a different beast. She's on 7th in the semi-final which shouldn't pose too much of a problem, and once in the big-time I think anything could happen. Don't rule it out, it might be "every little thing you'e waited for".

Also, watch out for an energetic Brotherhood of Man ankle twirl/genuflection which when utilised in tandem with her rubber hip, would put a lesser pop-moppet in hospital.

Kate "adores" Dogtanian and the Three Muskerhounds

Belgian Kate is particularly smitten with this pan-European production..."Dogtanian is an 80's cartoon classic and every child should get the opportunity to experience it. “I will be doing the ‘knee swing’,” she confirmed. “For those of you who don’t know, the knee swing has become a big part of my choreography and everyone in Belgium knows it. I have a new choreographer for ‘Je t’adore’ and I begged him to put it in until he said ‘Okay, okay, you can do it.’ Everyone in Belgium will be very happy.”
