Las Ketchup will be mixing a 'Bloody Mary' at the Eurovision Song Contest Final

Hailing from Córdoba, Las Ketchup are the four daughters of El Tomate, the Flamenco guitarist.

All four of them are young, attractive and friendly. And all four of them have rhythm coursing through their veins, as you can tell by their songs and performances.

Their first CD was called 'Las Hijas del Tomate' (released as "The Ketchup Song" in the UK and other countries). And just a week after its release, their first single 'Aserejé' went to number one in Spain. It also reached or almost reached the top of the charts in many countries including Spain, the UK, Italy, France, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Belgium, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Germany, Argentina, Mexico and the U.S. commonwealth of Puerto Rico.

Without doubt, it is this cheerful song that won the hearts of the public and introduced the girls to the world of showbiz. 'Aserejé' became a huge summer hit and quickly achieved double platinum status. The secret behind the song was that its chorus was based on the first few lines of the 1979 rap hit 'Rapper's Delight' by the Sugar Hill Gang.

The name of the group is a reference to their father Juan Munoz, a well known flamenco guitarist known as El Tomate (The Tomato). This also explains why their debut album carried the title Las hijas del tomate (Tomato's daughters).

Now Las Ketchup are coming back, with the new album titled Bloody Mary. The album will be released in Spain on April 4th and internationally on May 15th. They are planning to release 1 million copies and their producer "Queco", who also produced and wrote their world wide single "Asereje", promises that this album retains their original sound. Their first single to be released internationally on May 8th will be titled "Bloody Mary" and this song is the Spanish representative at Eurovision Song Contest 2006. Single will also include 5 remixes:
Blodymary houseton mix radio edit (DJ Caro), Blodymary houseton mix (DJ Caro), Blodymary club remix (Pedro del morar), Ketchini drive remix (Erik Nilsson), Blody villar mix (David Villar)

Welcome once more to the Latino Eurosong sound of Spain. A sound which very occasionally throws up a pearl, but more often throws a plate of empty oysters, "Bloody Mary" is more a dish of rotten paella, which likens love to duty free. All very peculiar, especially in these days of European integration. As for the group, they don't seem too bothered by it all. Put politely, they dress casually, have a laid-back approach to the performing arts, and have occasionally been known to smile. Put honestly they look like they've been dragged through a hedge backwards, shuffle arounds stage like John Merrick, and have alook on their faces like the cat has micturated in their kettle.

"Spain are still more Brown Sauce than Ketchup"

The Ketchup Girls all love...Jamie & His Magic Torch

"Jamie had a torch, and when he turned it on in his bedroom at night, it opened a hole in the floor which led to a magical and slightly freaky other world. Once down the helter skelter, his sheepdog started talking. it was eff...eff...effeffcellent"
"As the Spanish are naturalised nightowls and enjoy a nice bit of colour, Jamie's adventures were a perfect tonic to spending all day dozing and accepting European grants". Not wanting to behave inappropriately, the web author would like to impress upon the reader that Las Ketchup have never, repeat never, been quoted thus.

Bloody Mary

Un Bloody Mary por favor...

Juro por dior que no quise
pero esta pegao
todo fue limpio y certero

Yo era la otra, la tonta,
sera pringao
chulito de medio pelo

Maravillosa me puse,
me ha dejao tirao
chico martini perverso

Mucha palabra de lava
tiene el desgraciao
pero es que a mi no me engana

Puedo ser de barrio bajo underground pero mi corazon
se te ha declarao
duty free, duty free, duty free...

duty free, duty free, duty free

Un Bloody Mary por favor...

Hubiera o hubiese habido
un buen vacilion
pintaba pluscuamperfecto
pero tu tiempo mira, se termino
la noche empieza de nuevo

La luna cambio de rumbo
y me vi dando tumbos
buscando el ambiente, freneticamente
y mira que punto que tiene el asunto
de nuevo tu y yo frente a frente

Puedo ser de barrio bajo, underground pero mi corazon
se te ha declarao
duty free, duty free, duty free

Un Bloody Mary por favor...

Hubiera o hubiese habido
un buen vacilion
pintaba pluscuamperfecto
pero tu tiempo mira, se termino
la noche empieza de nuevo

Hubiera o hubiese habido
un buen vacilion
pintaba pluscuamperfecto
pero tu tiempo mira, se termino
la noche empieza de nuevo

Un Bloody Mary por favor...

Bloody Mary

One Bloody Mary please…

I swear Dior
That I didn’t want to
Everything was clean and precise

I was the other woman, the stupid one.
Half pint underground
I was stunning

I left him high and dry
He has the gift of gab
I can be an underground low life

But my heart has spoken:
Duty free, duty free, duty free….

One Bloody Mary please…

I dance the hours away
And he desperately
Drinks at the bar

He sends me looks
That could kill
I baited him

He dies inside
And I’m insane
But your time runs out

The night begins all over again
The moon-changed course
And I saw myself tumbling

Frenetically looking for the atmosphere
And the point is
You and I are face to face again.

I can be an underground low life
But my heart has spoken:
Duty free, duty free, duty free….

One Bloody Mary please…

“Our favourite song in the contest this year? ‘Bloody Mary’ of course!” said Lucía. “But after that, my favourite is the Finnish song by Lordi and not just because it’s hard rock. I’m just in love with their faces!"
